INGREDIENTS
4 cored apples
1 onion
1 quartered fennel bulb
4 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon fennel seeds
2 teaspoons sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
PREPARATION
- Mix 4 tablespoons softened butter with 1 tablespoon fennel seeds, 2 teaspoons sugar, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Use some of the mixture to grease a baking dish.
- Rub 4 cored apples inside and out with the remaining butter mixture.
- Rub 4 cored apples inside and out with the remaining butter mixture.
- Place the fennel bulb quarters in the baking dish near the base of each apple.
- Bake at 425°F until apples are tender but not mushy (between 30–45 minutes or so, depending on size of apples).
Serves 4–8 (depending on portion size). Prep time, 10 minutes; cook time, 30–45 minutes.
