I Want Candy…Cots!

CandyCot farmer and co-owner Paul Konynenburg with son Landon in the family orchard.

Described as “knock-your-socks-off-good!” by FruitGuys buyer Misi Katoa, CandyCots are a uniquely sweet group of apricot varieties grown exclusively by a family-owned, fourth-generation farming collective based in Modesto, CA. The company is helmed by Chris Britton and Paul Konynenburg—the two still work alongside their fathers, who have been partners since the 1960s!

There are four varieties of CandyCot, ranging from large to small and from fuzzy to smooth—but what unites them all is their superb, sweet flavor. CandyCots were cultivated by gathering seeds from some of the most exotic and delicious apricots found around the world, and looking for the right mix of sweetness and complexity. One of our favorites (although they’re all delicious!) is a variety called Yuliya, a small, smooth-skinned, orange apricot with a slight blush.

Like other apricots, CandyCots are high in vitamin A, which promotes good vision, and beta-carotene, which makes them great for heart-health. CandyCots are also a good source of dietary fiber, like other apricots. They just taste better. :)
