Red wine, chocolate, and berries? Oh my
By Rebecca Taggart
Cardiovascular disease is the single biggest killer of both male and female Americans, causing 1 in 2.9 of all deaths—more than all cancers combined—and currently affects 26% of the population. In Heart Healthy Foods: A Delicious Diet can Lower Cholesterol, we wrote about heart-healthy foods and what makes them healthy, from oatmeal to asparagus to olive oil. Here we will focus on foods that can lower “bad” cholesterol, or LDL, and possibly even raise good cholesterol (HDL). Find out which foods are best for a heart healthy diet here.

As the World Tilts
By Chris Mittelstaedt
Time for this year’s installment of that Fall classic:
“As The World Tilts”
(SCENE: FADE IN – A FruitGuys crate sits on an office kitchen counter; orange-bristly sunlight streams in through the window)
Scarlet Peach: “Rhett Bartlett, my pear.”
Rhett Bartlett: “Yes, my peach.”
Scarlet Peach: “I’m weaker now than before and. . .”
Rhett Bartlett: “Don’t speak my peach for fall is fast upon us and you will bruise too easily and your sugar will grow weaker and weaker.”
Scarlet Peach: “I have only a short time left. Rhett, when I’m gone, will you find another?”
Rhett Bartlett: “Um . . . Well . . .It has already happened.” Find out what happens to Scarlet and Rhett here.

East-West Farms Raise Profile of “Apple Pear”
By Heidi Lewis
Only two out of ten Americans have ever tasted Asian pears, those round apple-looking pears, according to Joel Spira, president of Subarashii Kudamono Farms in Coopersburg, PA, the east coast’s premier Asian pear farm. That may change thanks to the efforts of Spira and West coast farmer Torrey Olson of Gabriel Farm in Sebastopol, CA. Read about the farmers of one of our favorite fall fruits, the Asian pear, here.
