Mardi Gras Fruit

It's Carnival Time, FruitFans! Mardi Gras, aka Fat Tuesday, falls this week on February 24th. In Louisiana Fat Tuesday is a state holiday thanks to the Mardi Gras Act of 1875 - but for those without a day off, The FruitGuys have put together a colorful carnival mix of delicious treats to get your taste buds doing a Zulu Strut. In New Orleans, Carnival Season starts on January 6th at the Feast of The Epiphany, also known as Twelfth Night because it is the last of the Twelve Days of Christmas. The festivities continue through Lundi Gras (Fat Monday) and Mardi Gras, technically culminating at midnight with the arrival of Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Most people associate Mardi Gras and Carnival in New Orleans with general debauchery and odd behavior - but I like to think of it as the world's best-dressed walking club. The city of New Orleans hosts over 70 astonishingly elaborate public parades during Carnival, not to mention those in surrounding parishes and towns like Metairie and Houma.
The official imperial colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green, and gold. These were the colors selected by the first Mardi Gras King, Rex, in 1872. In 1892, the Rex Parade theme "Symbolism of Colors" solidified their meaning: purple for justice, green for faith, and gold for power. Together, they look really great on a sequined costume and mask. West coast customers this week will get a healthy dose of justice with purple Larry Anne Plums, a heaping helping of faith from green Organic Avocados, and the powers of juice and taste-ability from gold (yellow) Nectarines. If you're feeling adventurous, try slicing all three together and get your co-workers together for a Mardi Gras Mambo break for a serving of FruitGuys Special Carnival Salad. East coast customers will see a brand new Dapple Dandy Pluot this week, which we guarantee is just(ice) delicious. And Midwest customers will get a unique taste of power with the Lemon Plum - that's right, a plum on Masquerade! Yellow skinned and even with a pointy nub on one end, this celebratory stone fruit almost had us fooled.
