When OHenry peaches start to appear, I think of O Henry, a turn of the century American short story writer, who wrote The Gift of the Magi, a story about a young married man who sells his watch to buy his newlywed wife a comb for her hair, and the wife who cuts and sells her hair to buy her new husband a watch chain; Ah the irony.
Eating the OHenry peach is like embarking on a quick culinary story of sweet deprivation. As you bite into it, savoring the moment of juicy sweetness dripping down your chin until you’ve formed a beard of bees — you also can’t help but think that it is almost gone. Whether or not you are eating the peach in the safety of a bee-less office or in the wild, the OHenry is truly something to remember.
Fit businesses, fit adults, fit kids = a fit state
In early September of 2005, The FruitGuys attended the presentation of the California Fit Business Awards in Sacramento. The California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness recognized six businesses in California for their work in maintaining a healthy workplace. Some of the winners not only provided fruit for their employees but also helped employees stay active with onsite fitness breaks and facilities, wellness seminars, nutrition counseling, and more. If you’d like information on how to be a fit business take a look the Fruits & Veggies – More Matters, Produce for Better Health Foundation site.
It’s exciting to see that the State of California is interested in helping people stay healthy at work. They realize that if adults at work are healthy, this may help translate into positive role models for kids, one of the most at-risk demographic groups for obesity.
