Mike G, curly haired and vintage two-toned-Nike-wearing hubby of our marketing gal Erin G, is a pop-culture super star. During the day he's helping a local and world-wide clothing company understand what's happening and at night you may find him putting shows together for the Cafe DuNord. This week on Thursday, August 3rd at 9pm he'll be downstairs at the Cafe DuNord in his first ever psychedelic moustache party called Gypsy's Purple Potion. Mike calls it: "a cauldron of undiscovered bands both local and national with a weird, unusual, other-worldly mix of guitar rock." The first 100 people at the door to this inaugural-prankster-party get free removable moustaches and will most surely get wavy in the purple and glo-red gravy of Mike's liquid lightshow of colored oil and water on an overhead projector. Say the magic word – "I’m a FruitGuy" and he'll give you a discount so the door fee is only $5. What a hippie. Cafe DuNord is located at 2170 Market Street in San Francisco near the intersection of Sanchez and 15th.
Electric light show in your mouth!: If you're looking for a voyage of taste bud expansion I've got two new things from local growers to send your synapses firing. First are Ed Magee's Sugar-Giant white peaches. These are his most delicate peaches of the year. We have to get them in and out to you right away in order to maintain their integrity. He brings them to us a bit on the firmer side so that the delivery process doesn't bruise them. We tested the sugar level with our light-refractometer (a device that allows you to dribble the fruit's juice onto a translucent plate and then read its sugar content) and it came in at a 16 Brix – a nice level for this particular peach. Ed's 3 year old daughter rode along from the farm to our facility in her mom and dad's truck and announced clearly to everyone: "I’m here!" as she darted straight for the banana costumes, ducked into one and began to sing.
Arctic Queen: We also have the arctic queen - a small, dark skinned white nectarine from John Smit. If you try it you will not be disappointed. The taste and texture of this nectarine is absolutely wonderful. These nectarines are "transitional". This means that John is changing from a conventional growing method to an organic one - a process that requires three years of verification. As with all fruit (organic or conventional) I recommend washing before eating as it has been out under the sun, stars and birds. John's farm is in Linden - 30 minutes east of Stockton.
