Last week, if you were to consult a weather map, you would find that temperatures in the Bay Area were almost 50 ° cooler than those that we were experiencing in Guinda. The daytime highs forecast for our coming week are as follows: 111, 109, 108, 107, 105, 104”¦ At least there’s a cooling trend!

The nights at the farm are much cooler, giving all of us, the crops and the livestock some time to recover and cool down. The work day starts at 6:00 am and it doesn’t truly bake until 11:00 – so there’s time in the morning to pick as much as possible, getting it into the cooler before the field heat really builds up.

Everyone is well acclimated to the heat, but we work a little slower at the peak of the heat in the afternoon. Lots of time for breaks in the shade, a water bottle strapped around the waist, and plenty of watermelons picked straight from the vines! We hope that you are appreciating the great flavors that this weather has helped to develop in the fruit that we’re putting in your boxes!
