Diary of a Restless Peach

Our baby picture! (just waking up) Our baby picture! (just waking up)

By Gretchen Bay

Dear Diary,
I’m growing more and more impatient watching local residents enjoy peaches, nectarines, apricots, and plums from out of town.

I know my friends and I aren’t as punctual as our cousins out West, due to later frost dates and heavier rains in the spring, but it’s not for lack of trying!

Us last week (when will we grow up?) At about 2 weeks old (the terrible 2s!)

The good news is, because there are so many people nearby who are anxious to enjoy us when we’re finally ready, the farmer can let us RIPEN ON THE TREE (!) so we’ll be sweeter and juicier and even more delicious! Then, our friends at The FruitGuys can get us right from the farm into the hands of their local customers.

peach-young Us last week (when will we grow up?)

But, Diary, dear Diary, will the day ever arrive???

p.s. I’ve included some snapshots of me and my sister this spring. Don’t we look cute? (I’m the one on the left.)
