Help Save Bernard Ranches
Valencia Oranges from Bernard Ranches: Vince and Vicki Bernard bought their first citrus grove in Riverside in the early eighties. The COVID crisis has dramatically affected their farm business. Sales have fallen nearly 70% due to the closure of restaurants, slowing of farmers markets, and reductions in orders from businesses such as The FruitGuys. Vince told us he is having many “sleepless nights pondering whether or not we are going to survive.” He wonders if he will have enough to pay the water bill or if he will need to let some of his trees die. You can help by buying some of their sweet & juicy Valencia oranges!
Heirloom Frost Valencia Oranges
Vince and Vicki pride themselves on the flavor and sweetness of these heirloom Valencias, which they attribute to their rich soil and suitable southern California climate. They are super sweet and extra juicy. Perfect for juicing, salads, or eating.
Vince hopes that we can sell 800 boxes or more of these oranges a week to help his farm. The price is $12.99 for 10 lbs with a minimum $6 delivery charge*. The number of oranges in each bag ranges from around 18-30, depending on their size, which varies because of the way Vince grows them with his focus on flavor, not uniformity.
It’s a great deal that supports a great farm.
About Bernard Ranches
50 acres in Riverside, CA of citrus trees, including Valencia and Navel oranges, blood oranges, lemons, kumquats, tangerines, and specialty citrus.
Vince and Vicki Bernard bought their first citrus grove in 1984. They pride themselves on the flavor and sweetness of their fruit, which they attribute to the combination of their rich soil and suitable Southern California climate. The farm is not organic certified but still uses all natural growing practices, closely monitoring the water needs of the trees. They do not use any synthetic pesticides, use beneficial insects to control pests, hand weed, and hand-trap gophers. Vince believes in placing flavor above appearance and chooses rootstock that produces the sweetest fruit.
The decomposed granite and clay soil is fertilized with urea and seaweed, which Vince says has every element on earth and provides a perfect balance of nutrients to keep trees healthy.
Drip irrigation. These trees all need to be watered 9 months out of every year for roughly 20 hours a week, at an average cost of about $25,000 a month.
