Fruit In Words

As a business that values creativity and community engagement, we were thrilled to receive so many entries for our fruit poem contest! We were blown away by the depth of thought and imagination that went into each and every submission, and we wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude to all the participants.

From haikus to limericks, free verse to sonnets, we were delighted to see the diversity of styles and perspectives represented in the entries. It was truly heartwarming to see so many people celebrating the beauty of fruit and the joy of words.

We understand that it takes courage to put one’s work out there for others to see, and we want to acknowledge the effort and talent that went into each and every poem. Whether you’re a seasoned poet or someone who simply enjoys playing with language, we’re honored that you chose to share your work with us.

So, to all the participants who took the time to craft a fruit-themed poem, we offer our sincere thanks. Your words brought a smile to our faces and reminded us of the power of creativity to connect us all.

Onto the poems:

I love fresh berries
In my wine or my champagne
Or in my ice cream

I love your fragrance and your sweet
Honestly you’re tough to beat!

Keeps the doctor away, you say?
What then might two do?

Strawberries Delight

Strawberries delight
Hibiscus is delicious

Sweetest Seasons
by Claire Patereau

I enjoy the seasons
Of winter and fall.
But when it comes to fruit,
This time of year is sweetest of all.
Loquats and apricots,
Apples and cherries –
You can’t go wrong
With oodles of berries.
Dragon fruit and blood oranges
Sound kind of scary;
Their fruit is sweet though,
You need not be wary.
So many melons
And citrus to pick from;
Stone fruit and cling fruit
Like peaches and plums.
The choices are many –
‘Fruitful’, you may say.
Challenge yourself
To try a new one each day!

In California
by Jacqui Abbey

In California so fair,
Oranges grow with the best of care,
Zest and sweetness combined,
A treasure you’ll find,
Citrus delights beyond compare!

Durian
by Victoria Oliver

Durian, the king of fruits they say,
With spikes and odor that keep some at bay,
But cut it open and you’ll find,
A creamy flesh that’s truly divine.

Its flavor is sweet, like custard or cream,
With hints of almonds and a tropical dream,
Some say it’s addictive, and once you try,
You’ll crave that durian until you die.

From Southeast Asia, this fruit does hail,
With many health benefits that will not fail,
So take a chance, give it a taste,
Durian might just become your favorite fruit in haste.

I work with Fruit All Year Long
Suzanne McLean

I Work with Fruit All Year Long!
Winter is for citrus, short days but
sunny with luscious lemons, fresh & fragrant,
green with (unripe) limes, sooo tart.
Oranges and grapefruit in yellows, pinks, reds and, of course, orange.
Buddha’s Hand, so aromatic it perfumes the room.
I squeeze them, or slice them, or even chop them, juice getting everywhere, my fingers curling up.
Then weigh & measure, start cooking. Adding sugar, perhaps other fruit, spices and vinegars.
Lots of pouring and stirring and testing the set.
Finally ready, into the hot, sterile jars it goes, to be capped & boiled, lifted out & wiped and set to cool. Pop! go the lids as the vacuum seals.
Precious stained-glass jars that sparkle with nature’s winter bounty in California. I gaze entranced….but for now the sticky floor needs mopping!

These Gifts from Nature

These gifts from Nature
Bloom and fall and love us all —
What are these gifts? Fruit!

A double haiku:
A fruit haiku that rhymes too!
Lyrical gifts: fruit!

Fruit Fruit Fruit
by Pat Palmeri

Fruit, fruit, fruit.
There are so many good ones to choose from – how will I decide?
What will it be today? Blueberries, fresh off the plant? Or maybe some bright red strawberries juicy as can be!
Oh, fruit, how I love you fruit! You are my sunshine!
You brighten my day with your sweet juicy taste. Who can choose only one? They are all so yummy!

Joy Abound
by Claudette Johnson

Both fruit and joy abound
Whenever the Fruit Guys are around
Bringing Nature’s dessert
To your home or your work
Delivering health by the pound

Apple Haiku
by Julie Collins

Juicy red apple,
Crisp and sweet, a perfect snack,
Nature’s gift to us.

Mango Soprano
by Jessica Bickis

In the orchard, I saw a mango,
So sweet and luscious, I could tango,
I peeled off the skin,
And dug right in,
I was singing like a soprano!

Fruit Style
by Steffy Araujo

Eat fruit for breakfast for a beautiful start.
Nature’s skittles helping you with your heart!
Fruit comes in all shapes and sizes,
Let fruit help keep you stylish!

Winter Fruit MixFavorite Fruit
by Carol Stewart

Papayas are my favorite fruit,
White nectarines & cherries to boot.
How am I to pick just one,
Only one is just no fun!
So why not choose them all I say,
And many many more each day!
