No, that isn’t a strange-looking strawberry—it’s actually a distinct type of berry known as the pineberry! The pineberry has pale ivory skin with hints of blushing pink and sprinkle of red seeds. It offers a flavor reminiscent of pineapple (hence the name), featuring subtle notes of cloves and occasionally caramel.
When fully ripe, the pineberry is similar to its cousin, the strawberry, boasting soft, juicy flesh and a firm texture. Look for California pineberries from January–October and Florida pineberries from November–April. Whether you enjoy them by themselves or as a delightful addition to yogurt or oatmeal, they’re sure to tantalize your taste buds!
