Small Farm Grants Made Big Impacts on These 20 Farms

Many small-scale farmers want to rebuild their soil, support their local pollinators, or share more environmental education with their communities—but a lack of funding holds them back. That’s where The FruitGuys Community Fund (TFGCF) comes in. Every year, it awards small farm grants to farms and agricultural nonprofits specifically for sustainability projects.

In the spring of 2024, TFGCF awarded grants to a record-breaking twenty farms in sixteen states and US territories. The farmers promised to use their up to $5,000 grants for projects like installing solar dehydrators and planting pollinator hedgerows that support bees and butterflies.

For the rest of the year, TFGCF followed along as the farms made progress on their projects. Now, they’re finally complete!

Supporting small farms is a huge part of our mission here at The FruitGuys, and we’re incredibly proud of the work TFGCF’s grantees have done with their funds. Here are just a few of their 2024 successes.

  • TruCulture Farm in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, planted more than 200 pollinator-friendly plants and expanded its native fruit tree orchard with forty diverse trees
  • Servicing Every Soul / S&S Friendly Ranch in San Diego, California, built a self-service, solar-powered refrigerated farm stand that doubles as a rainwater catchment system and irrigates a native plant garden
  • YouthWorks Ranch in Tulsa, Oklahoma, installed a new irrigation system that led to healthier plants and soil in the teaching garden where primarily Black and Native American children and teens learn how to grow and cook fresh produce

These are just three of the twenty projects TFGCF’s grantees completed or came close to completing with their small farm grants in 2024! Read more about their achievements on TFGCF’s blog
