The FruitGuys Donates Fresh Fruit to LA Firefighters and Evacuees

I had a plan for what to write in this week’s Chief Banana blog—but the truth is, I haven’t been able to think about much other than the horrific, fast-moving wildfires in Los Angeles since they erupted overnight last week. As I write this, the fires are still mostly uncontained. Whether you have a personal connection to the LA area or not, please know that the hearts of the whole FruitGuys team are going out to those who have lost their homes or loved ones, or have been displaced.

The FruitGuys’ LA Team

The FruitGuys has had a facility in the LA area since 2014. Luckily, as of now our staff and farm partners are safe and outside the evacuation zones. I happened to be in LA last Wednesday for a planned visit to the facility there, and it was odd to watch life go on as usual with the world literally on fire 30 miles away.

Fresh Fruit Donations to Shelters and Firefighters

When tragedies like these happen, it’s always moving to see people come together and help each other. I’ve been really inspired by the many organizations out there doing what they can to support victims and firefighters. (You can read about some of them here.)  To do our part, The FruitGuys donated 1,200 servings of fresh fruit and snacks to LA-area shelters this week, including Hollywood Food Coalition, the Los Angeles Dream Center emergency shelter, Union Station Homeless Services, and Noel Community Organization.

We’ve also delivered three cases of fruit directly to firefighters, and plan to continue donating however we can as long as it’s helpful. If you or your business would like to get involved or if you have recommendations of other shelters or fire stations accepting food, please let us know.

Final Thoughts on the Fires

I hope the tide turns and firefighting crews can stop the fires soon without additional losses. Until that happens, I hope you and your loved ones stay safe, and I’m grateful for all the people who have come together to support those in need.
