The FruitGuys Plant a Tree for UMOM

Since 1964, UMOM has helped Arizona families in need, and The FruitGuys is proud to have such a wonderful organization as one of its community partners. The largest homeless shelter in the state, UMOM provides transitional housing and services, including medical aid, life skills, and childcare – for up to 425 men, women, and children daily – offering assistance to more than 1,300 people since 2009. According to its mission statement: Our Mission is to provide homeless families and individuals with safe shelter, housing, and supportive services to assist them in reaching their greatest potential.

Earlier in December 2013, The FruitGuys’ Southwest buyers, Kat and Venita, had the honor of planting a Moro blood orange tree in the playground at UMOM and meeting local families in the Valley of the Sun. The kids absolutely loved the playground’s new green addition, and many of them became “tree fairies” or “protectors of the tree,” vowing to watch over their new friend.

“It was rewarding to meet the families we donate fruit to every week,” said Venita. “We are already looking forward to our next outreach with them.”
