The Uni-Net, August 22, 2005

We want a story, my four-year-old girls said recently. Okay, I agreed. Once there was a king.

Did he have a unicorn? Simone said.

Yes, I said. But this unicorn had a net growing out of his head instead of a horn.

A net? They said.

That’s right; it grew like a horn but was in the shape of a net. Anyway, when the king found this uni-net unicorn, it was hungry and tired. All of the other unicorns did not want to be around it because it did not have a horn like the rest. So they kicked it out of the unicorn forest where it wandered lonely and sad. The king saw the uni-net unicorn and brought it back to his castle. He took care of it and helped it get strong again.

Are you sure the unicorn really had a net? Fiona asked.

I am sure, I said. Because one day, the king rode the uni-net unicorn into the field, and together they raced up and down, catching the most beautiful butterflies in his uni-net. And what do you think the king learned that day.

How to steer the unicorn?

No I mean, is there a lesson in the story?

Like A, B, C?

No. I’m not being clear. Don’t you think the king liked the uni-net unicorn even though the other unicorns didn’t like him? It’s about not worrying how someone looks but liking them for who they are.

Dad, can you get mom now?

And thus ended the lesson. . .

Yellow Flavor-Grenade Pluot

I was reminded how we think about things that may not look the way we expect them to when we sampled the Yellow Flavor-Grenade Pluot. We always strive to find fruit that tastes great, but sometimes, great fruit does not always look pretty. Fruit is a living thing, and taste can change with its ripening process, variety, and weather conditions. As summer wanes and fall approaches all of our taste buds here at The FruitGuys go into overdrive. The yellow flavor-grenade pluot, the larger elongated shaped pluot and an absolute favorite of FruitGuy Erin Giordano, has a crisp and light sugary taste to it and leaves you with a very refreshed feeling in your mouth. However, I have to admit that it is not very attractive. I like my pluots crisp, but others enjoy them on the soft side. Try it and let us know what you think.
