The FruitGuys is now a certified B Corp, joining the ranks of socially-responsible companies such as Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Kleen Kanteen, and Clover Sonoma that all make a commitment to transparency and blending purpose and profit.
“Since our founding we’ve been on a mission to create a healthier workplace, support small farms, fight hunger, and be a great place to work,” said The FruitGuys founder and CEO Chris Mittelstaedt. “We’re excited to be recognized for our values and practices and to be included in a global community of companies who want to make the world a better place.”
Mittelstaedt said the B Corp certification will be another way for conscientious decision makers to know that choosing The FruitGuys provides benefits that go far beyond just receiving delicious farm-fresh fruit and healthy snacks at their workplaces.
As part of the certification, The FruitGuys has committed to donating a minimum value of 20% annual profits to fight hunger and support sustainable farming practices through weekly produce donations to organizations that feed the hungry and fostering environmental stewardship through annual grants for sustainability projects to small farms via its non-profit, The FruitGuys Community Fund.
“The B Impact Assessment provides a roadmap to continually improve our business practices, set ambitious goals to challenge ourselves, and promote positive change in our communities,” said Sheila Cassani, The FruitGuys Manager of Mission Engagement, who led the company’s B Corp certification process.
What is a B Corporation?
Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of independently-verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and accountability. B Corps strive to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy by harnessing profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.
This certification reflects the values upon which The FruitGuys was founded. Since 1998, the company has been committed to creating a healthier workplace, supporting American farms, and fighting hunger.
Some highlights from The FruitGuys 20-Year Impact Report include:
- 15 million servings of fresh fruit donated to help fight hunger
- 100,000 servings donated to disaster victims and first responders
- 70 farm grants for sustainable agriculture projects awarded through The FruitGuys Community Fund, one of the only micro-grant programs available to U.S. farmers
- 200+ small farm partners and suppliers across the U.S.
There are nearly 3,000 Certified B Corps from more than 150 industries in 64 countries with one unifying goal—to redefine success in business and to implement a healthy balance of profit and purpose.
