In elementary school, some friends and I went through a phase where we had dreams of being city planners. We diagrammed a world of baseball diamonds and arcades and woods with bike paths that somehow were always tilted downhill. It was a community without parents where kids built their own kinds of homes—hobbit holes and tree houses. Water slides and rope swings were a must.
Many years later, I feel that same excitement of building and sustaining something collaboratively around the concept of local food. People don’t just want to know where their food is coming from, but who’ s growing it and how. As The FruitGuys has grown up (we’re in our 20s now) we’ve increased our network of local farmers in all the regions we serve. partnerships from coast to coast.
One of these partners is Capay Valley Farm Shop, a community-owned collaboration of more than 40 small farms in Capay Valley, CA (Yolo County) that we’ve had the pleasure of working with since 2010.) Partnering with The FruitGuys helps Capay Valley’s small farms expand the distribution of their product and bring you seasonal produce at its peak from this very specific region.
Enjoy and be fruitful! chiefbanana@fruitguys.com
