The Stories Behind the Numbers
Leveling Up Our Giving as a B Corp
Since 1998, The FruitGuys has been dedicated to connecting people, nourishing communities, and regenerating the planet. Every year, we donate a minimum value of 20% of our annual profits to relieve hunger and support small farms, and in 2019 we formalized that commitment by becoming a Certified B Corporation.
B Corps are for-profit businesses that meet the highest standards of independently verified social and environmental performance, accountability, and public transparency. We’re proud to be one of them! The certification solidified our mission and challenged us to keep improving.
In 2024, we exceeded our giving goal and donated more than 34% of our profits to relieve hunger and support small farms.*
We did this by making weekly produce and snack donations to local hunger relief partners across the country and awarding annual grants to small farms through The FruitGuys Community Fund (TFGCF).
*To put it more technically, The FruitGuys donated 34.45% of the value of its annual profits.

Feeding Communities with Weekly Donations
Hunger is a critical issue in the US. Millions of people—including children, seniors, and working families—struggle to access nutritious food. According to Feeding America, nearly forty-seven million Americans face food insecurity, including one in five children.
Every week, The FruitGuys donates fresh fruit, vegetables, and snacks to thirty local hunger relief partners to feed people in need near our eleven regional hubs.
Your business with us fed 906,972 people in need in 2024!
Through these weekly donations, we’re not only addressing hunger but also reinforcing the belief that everyone deserves access to healthy, nourishing food.

“The weekly fresh produce donations from The FruitGuys are an invaluable addition to our community and allow us to provide healthy food to those we serve. Thank you for your continued support.”
Juanita Bruton, Food Justice Manager, Booker T. Washington Community Service Center
Reducing Food Waste to Help People and the Planet
We believe that in order to build a healthier future for people and the planet, we need to reduce both hunger and food waste. That’s why The FruitGuys has been a zero-food waste company since our founding.
Instead of sending our excess and imperfect fruit, vegetables, and snacks to the landfill, we donate them to those in need. Not only does this help reduce food waste, but it also prevents harmful greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere!
In 2024, our food donations diverted 422 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

Fruiting It Forward Through Donate-a-Crate
Through our Donate-a-Crate program, our generous clients can redirect their fruit, vegetable, and snack deliveries to people in need in their communities. This opportunity to “fruit it forward” is available year-round, but it’s especially popular during the holiday season when offices and schools are closed.
Thanks to the support of clients like you, our Donate-a-Crate program provided healthy food to 36,544 people in need in 2024!
Feeding Students Through The FruitGuys Farm-to-School Program
Our Farm-to-School Program provides fresh, nutritious produce and engaging nutrition education materials to schools in California and beyond. In 2024, we made significant strides in improving the health and wellbeing of the students we serve!
173,878 students across 486 schools consumed more than 13 million servings of The FruitGuys’ fruit, vegetables, and snacks in 2024.
Our program aims to inspire healthy eating habits early in life, helping students build a strong foundation for wellness. We’re proud to partner with nutrition services staff to offer wholesome, local produce and teach kids about their local farmers and the importance of making nutritious choices.

Empowering Small Farm Sustainability Through The FruitGuys Community Fund
The FruitGuys Community Fund (TFGCF) provides annual grants to small American farms and agricultural nonprofits for sustainability projects. Every project it funds has a big positive impact on the environment, local food systems, and farm diversity. In the spring of 2024, TFGCF awarded its largest class to date!
Twenty small farms and agricultural nonprofits from sixteen different states and territories received grants totaling $85,328.
The farms used those funds for sustainability projects related to soil health, heirloom crops, water conservation, ecological pest management, pollinator support, and more. Recipients also included farms in Kansas, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico for the first time.
A team of independent volunteer reviewers chose the farms based on criteria like ownership diversity, years in operation, farm type, difficulty accessing capital, community impact, and whether they operated in an economically distressed area.
These grants were possible thanks to generous donors who contributed to the Small Farms, Big Impacts 2024 campaign and the continued support of our major donor, Aramark. Aramark is a Philadelphia-based food and facilities service provider. In 2022, it made a three-year commitment to fund grants for at least ten nonprofit farms led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) farmers. The FruitGuys covers TFGCF’s administrative and staffing costs in addition to contributing to the annual grant budget.
2024 Grantee Spotlight: YouthWorks Ranch
YouthWorks Ranch is a twenty-acre agricultural nonprofit in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It offers an after-school program and a summer camp attended primarily by Black and Native American children and teens. Those students learn to grow their own food and cook with fresh produce! YouthWorks received a $5,000 grant from TFGCF to purchase culturally relevant seeds, hand tools, a drip irrigation system, soil amendments, and a post-harvest wash station for its teaching garden.

“This grant has transformed our garden by improving soil health, preventing pests, and eliminating the need for herbicides, while our new irrigation system has optimized water usage, reduced labor costs, and produced a healthier, more abundant crop.”
Chris Beach, Executive Director, YouthWorks Ranch
Supporting Small Farmers & Food Producers
At The FruitGuys, we’re committed to positively impacting local communities by partnering directly with small, independent farms and food producers. We prioritize sustainability and inclusivity by sourcing from diverse suppliers, including businesses owned by underrepresented groups—people who are women, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, veterans, LGBTQ+, or have disabilities. Many of the farms we source from are small-scale, with less than 250 acres, and share our commitment to responsible farming and ethical business practices.
We purchased 31% of our produce directly from farms in 2024, and increased our spending with diverse suppliers by 34%.

Cultivating a Supportive Team Culture
At The FruitGuys, our team is the heart of everything we do. We believe in putting people first by fostering work-life balance, offering fair compensation, and creating opportunities for professional growth. We also cultivate a culture rooted in empathy, compassion, and inclusivity—with plenty of fresh fruit and healthy snacks along the way!
To find out how we could make our workplace even better, we conducted a company-wide Employee Satisfaction & Engagement Survey in 2024. The results gave us invaluable insights into our team’s mental health, job satisfaction, and engagement, and helped us spot areas for improvement.
When surveyed, 83% of our team reported feeling ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with The FruitGuys as a place to work!
After the results were in, we took action in three main areas.
- Manager Training: We reinvigorated our manager training programs to help leaders better understand and support their teams.
- Roles & Responsibilities: We worked to define clear responsibilities across all of the roles on the team to increase transparency and boost employee confidence.
- Employee-Led Wellness: We launched an Employee Engagement & Wellness Committee to give our team ownership over company-wide wellness projects. The committee empowered employees to take on leadership roles and sparked new ideas for personal and professional development.
We made great progress in 2024 and are excited to continue fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
Paying Our Team for Volunteer Hours
Throughout 2024, we paid our team for time spent volunteering. Those hours included activities like preparing and staging weekly donations and evaluating farm grant applications for The FruitGuys Community Fund.
Team members spent 2,716 paid hours doing volunteer service.

Becoming a Top Impact Company (Again!)
In 2024, The FruitGuys was recognized as a Top Impact Company by the Real Leaders Impact Awards. Out of over 500 companies from more than fifteen countries, only 185 made the shortlist. We were thrilled to be one of them!
This was the second year in a row that Real Leaders Magazine awarded us this honor, and we couldn’t be more proud. The recognition reflects our team’s ongoing commitment to supporting small farms and helping alleviate hunger in our communities—work we’re passionate about and grateful to be able to do.
