Brothers-in-law Caleb Simpson and Chris Herbert founded Bearded Brothers in 2011, when they couldn’t find a snack bar that was both clean-ingredient and organic. The company has changed hands since then, but its team still makes its delicious bars by hand in Austin, Texas.
Amelia Kirchoff beat breast cancer while eating a plant-based diet. While she was healing, she whipped up the first MacroBar in her home kitchen. At GoMacro, she and her daughter, Jola Sonkin, make clean-ingredient, certified organic nutrition bars that help fight hunger, homelessness, and more.
Homefree is all about being allergy-friendly. Founder Jill Robbins wanted to make snacks for everyone, including her son with food allergies. Today, her company is a certified women-owned B Corp that uses non-GMO ingredients in its organic cookies and recycled and reworked materials in its packaging.
Kate’s Real Food was the brainchild of Kate Schade, an outdoor enthusiast who developed a passion for organic produce while working on an Idaho apple farm. Before long, Kate started making whole-food bars to power her outdoor adventures. They evolved into the certified organic bars she sells today.
Can a snack embody mindful eating? That’s the goal of LesserEvil, a Connecticut-based brand making popcorn, cheesy “Space Balls,” and more with ingredients so squeaky clean that not only are they certified organic, gluten-free, vegan, and kosher, but they’ve also received a Clean Label Project Purity Award.
Mammoth Bar set out to create “a bar you actually want to eat—without all the weird stuff.” They handcraft their certified organic bars in small batches with carefully chosen ingredients. Every bar has at least 10 grams of protein, so Mammoth is a great snack for the office or the trail.
Phil Hughes founded Mavuno Harvest in 2011 after volunteering with the Peace Corps in Kenya. He wanted to help African farmers bring in more income, so he created a company to sell their dried fruit! Mavuno sells certified organic and non-GMO Fruit Bites made from mangoes, papayas, and more.
If you’re worried about the sustainability of your snacks, chowing down on seaweed sheets from Ocean’s Halo is a great way to go. The company grows certified organic seaweed off the coast of South Korea and turns it into snacks that give back to ocean conservation.
What happens when two health food-obsessed people meet through a mutual friend? Sometimes nothing—but sometimes, Sweet Nothings! That’s how mom Beth Porter and business student Jake Kneller started their snack company. They upcycle imperfect fruits and veggies into sweet organic treats like Nut Butter Bites without added sugar.
Mother-daughter duo Stefanie and Chelsea Hults are the brains behind Tosi, a women-owned family business in California that makes organic, crunchy, clean-ingredient snack bars. On top of making tasty snacks, they give back to women’s shelters and other nonprofits.
Is there really such a thing as clean-ingredient candy? At YumEarth, there is! Since 2007, it’s been making lollipops, gummies, and more that are allergy-friendly; often certified organic and non-GMO; and free from junk like artificial dyes and high-fructose corn syrup.
Yumsters Yo! is an organic snack bar brand for kids and kids at heart. Its bars come in fun flavors like Strawberry Stride and Cookie Dough Swing, all made with less than five organic ingredients. It’s also a spinoff of Bearded Bros, the first brand on this list!
