The FruitGuys Shares Fresh Fruit at School Farmers Market

Have you ever handed a shiny red apple or bright pink dragon fruit over to a child and watched their little face light up? On October 18, The FruitGuys Fruit Buyer Miguel Robles was lucky enough to do just that. He set up a booth for The FruitGuys at Twinhill Elementary School in Riverside, California, as part of its pop-up farmers market to celebrate National Farm to School Month.

Farmers Market Fun

Miguel spent the morning representing The FruitGuys Farm-to-School Program, which provides fresh fruit delivery for schools in California and beyond. He handed out California-grown apples, rambutans, persimmons, dragon fruits, purple carrots, and more to elementary school students.

“It was an amazing experience seeing the excitement in the students’ eyes as they came by the table. Seeing the joy our produce brings them really inspires me and reminds me of the good work we are doing here at The FruitGuys,” Miguel said.

According to Miguel, the kids loved tasting the fruits and vegetables. They also got to meet local farmers at the market and take fresh produce home to share with their families. It was a fun way to introduce them to new flavors and reinforce how important fresh fruits and vegetables are for keeping their minds and bodies healthy.

More Ways to Share Healthy Fruits and Vegetables

This pop-up farmers market was just a small part of Alvord Unified School District’s effort to bring more fresh and unique produce to its students. As The Riverside Record reported, Twinhill Principal Mary McAllister-Parsons also hosts a “snack of the day” session with the kids at her school. She tries a new fruit or vegetable on camera during a school-wide morning video call and encourages the kids to follow her lead.

The FruitGuys Farm-to-School Program is proud to serve Twinhill Elementary School and the rest of Alvord Unified School District. The district uses Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) grant funds to purchase our California produce, and we love seeing the creative ways they share it.
