If someone handed you $5,000, what would you turn it into? Twenty-one farmers across the country are answering that question right now.
How Grants for Small Farms Make a Difference
In May 2025, these farmers earned microgrants of up to $5,000 from The FruitGuys Community Fund (TFGCF) to complete sustainability projects on their farms by December 2025. Three months in, they’ve already turned that money into some pretty amazing things! Here are just a few of the steps they’ve accomplished so far.

Sustainability Project Updates: The Impact So Far
- Beacon Food Forest Gardens in Clearwater, Florida, planted sixteen fruit trees and hosted a biochar workshop (biochar is a beneficial soil amendment made from waste!)
- Common Vision – Prescott Farm in Oakland, California, built a chicken coop and worm farm to teach elementary school kids about sustainable farming
- Dandelion Forest Farm in Nottingham, New Hampshire, purchased a commercial leaf shredder and spread leaf mulch to protect the soil, conserve water, and suppress weeds
- Gardopia Gardens in San Antonio, Texas, built a composter for its Community Resilience Tool Library, which has helped more than 500 people so far
Check out TFGCF’s blog for more detailed updates on all twenty-one projects.
They’re spread across seventeen states from California to Maine, so there’s probably one in your neighborhood! In December, TFGCF will share a final update on each project so you can follow along from start to finish.

Help Fund More Sustainability Grants for Small Farms
We’re so proud of everything these farmers have accomplished so far and can’t wait to see how they make a positive impact on their farms, their communities, and the planet in the months to come. If you’re as inspired as we are, you can help TFGCF support more innovative small farm projects by donating to its 2026 grant cycle. The FruitGuys covers all administrative and staffing costs for TFGCF so that 100 percent of outside donations go directly to the grants.
