5 Office-Friendly Snacks for Hispanic Heritage Month

Years ago, my wife and I went to a friend’s wedding in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The packed schedule of wedding activities didn’t leave us much time to explore the city. But on the last day, a bunch of us hopped into a van and a hotel staff member took us to their favorite street taco spot. I still remember the spicy al pastor tacos that we ate standing on the hot sidewalk. As I bit into the juicy pork, I thought, “Now this is a flavor I’ll remember!”
Why We Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Snacks

I love how food can be a passport to other places—it’s a way for people to share stories and bridge cultures. That’s one reason that The FruitGuys celebrates occasions like Black History Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with snacks. We look for brands owned by people in those communities and highlight them as our Snack(s) of the Month, adding them to all of our Thoughtful Snack Boxes and offering them by the case to offices like yours. It’s one small way we highlight other cultures’ many contributions to our communities.
Something Savory: Cassava & Plantain Chips from Artisan Tropic

This week, we’re celebrating the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM) by featuring snacks from Artisan Tropic, one of our favorite Hispanic-owned businesses. The NHHM festivities span two months (September 15–October 15) to honor the many Central American countries that celebrate their independence during that window.
One of our writers interviewed Artisan Tropic CEO Juan Pablo Guzman for our blog, and something he said really struck me:
“[My sister and I] love our Colombian heritage, roots, food, language, people, and culture, but we’re also extremely thankful for America and the opportunities that it has given our family. And our goal and our aspiration with Artisan Tropic has always been to … honor the heritage of our Colombian roots and give American consumers a way of accessing that through a bag of plantain or cassava chips.”
For the Guzman family, bringing cassava and plantain chips to the US is a way to honor their past and their present, and for me, it’s a way to connect with a piece of the world (Colombia) that I haven’t yet experienced firsthand. It’s amazing that a bag of chips can do that.

You can read more about Artisan Tropic, including the story behind its chips and how its team advocates for regenerative agriculture in Colombia, on our blog.
Something Sweet: Mangoes, Papayas, and Guavas
Some of our clients are also celebrating this month by exploring culturally significant fruits like mangoes, papayas, and guavas—sweet, vibrant flavors that are central to many Hispanic cultures. If you want to order one of these tropical bites for your office but don’t see it available by the case in your region, just reply to this email. I’m sure we can track it down for you.

As Hispanic Heritage Month begins, I hope you’ll join us in savoring the stories, flavors, and traditions that shape and enrich our communities. Let’s make this a month of celebration, discovery, and connection!
