Recipe by Lex Flamm for The FruitGuys
To keep yourself focused and energized during the workday, dietitians recommend you “Go PRO” with your office snacks: Pair a PROtein with a PROduce. This recipe for Greek yogurt with cherries makes it easy! I like to make it in the spring and summer with fresh cherries and granola from The FruitGuys’ office snack deliveries.
Ingredients
- 1 handful fresh cherries, pitted and sliced
- ¾ cup plain Greek yogurt
- ⅓ cup granola of choice
- Honey, to taste (optional)
Preparation
- Create the Base: In a small bowl, add the Greek yogurt.
- Assemble the Bowl: Top the yogurt with cherries and granola.
- Add Honey and Enjoy: Drizzle honey over your yogurt bowl (if using) and enjoy your healthy work snack.
Serves 1. Prep time, 5 minutes.

Cook’s Note
For an extra protein boost, add walnuts, pecans, or slivered almonds. Experiment with different types of granola (Early Bird Foods & Co. is a FruitGuys favorite) and different combinations of seasonal fruits like fresh peaches, nectarines, plums, or berries. This recipe is very flexible!
FAQs
1. Are cherries good with yogurt?
I certainly think so. In this recipe for yogurt with cherries, the tart and creamy Greek yogurt is a tasty complement to sweet and juicy cherries.
2. Which type of cherry is best with yogurt?
Pretty much every cherry variety is good with yogurt, so what’s best depends on your personal preference and the type of yogurt you’re using. If you prefer plain Greek yogurt, super-sweet Rainier cherries will work best to balance the flavor. (For the recipe above, I used a mix of Rainier and Bing cherries.) If your yogurt is already sweetened, Rainiers could make your snack a bit too sweet, so try a red cherry or even a tart cherry instead.
3. What’s the easiest way to pit cherries for a yogurt bowl?
I like to use the straw technique to pit my cherries: Just stick a straw through the stem end of the cherry and poke out the pit! See how it’s done in this video showing how to pit cherries.
4. Which fruits should not be mixed with yogurt?
Personally, I avoid combining yogurt with citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits and extremely wet fruits like watermelon. I’ve found that yogurt and citrus can be a little acidic for my taste, while wet fruits can change the texture and make it less pleasant.
5. Where can I buy fresh cherries for the office?
The FruitGuys delivers cherries to offices, schools, and homes during their peak spring and summer season. Look for cherries in its seasonal fruit mixes (they feature different fruits every week) or request a bulk fruit delivery.
