I’m Just a Bill

cartoon bucket of green apples holding a rolled up paperHave you heard about the food safety bill that the U.S. Senate passed in December of 2006? If made law, it will radically change the way U.S. food is grown and processed. The lead story in our online publication, The FruitGuys Almanac, summarizes how the bill could affect sustainable growers and family farms, including all the wonderful ones that provide your fruit and veggies each week.

Judith Redmond, from Fully Belly Farms in California’s Capay Valley, says the bill has some common-sense regulations but worries it doesn’t address the more significant problems that have arisen from industry expectations for long shelf lives and cost-cutting.
