4 Sweet and Simple DIY Fruit Gifts

With just a few days left before the holidays, I’ve been thinking about DIY gifts I can make. I’d like to give my friends and family a little something different this year. If you’re feeling the same way, here are a few of my favorite homemade gifts featuring fruit.

1. Dried Orange Slices

Jessica, The FruitGuys’ head of data and information systems, has a wonderful recipe for dehydrating citrus in the oven. You can turn it into a lovely garland or layer the fruit in a mason jar (with a ribbon around it) to make a colorful display piece. The slices are also great for brightening tea or cocktails.

2. Stovetop Potpourri

Looking for another use for dehydrated fruit? Turn it into potpourri! Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise to a jar of citrus slices, and include instructions for heating the mixture on the stove to fill a home with a warm, seasonal aroma.

3. Infused Oil or Vinegar

If you prefer gifting something made with fresh fruit, consider infusing vinegar or olive oil with lemon or orange peel for a flavorful twist. (Here’s a recipe recommended by the North American Olive Oil Association.)

4. Jam or Preserves

Last but not least, try simmering your fruit into delicious jams or preserves and gifting it in decorative jars. We have recipes for easy freezer jam and classic canned jam on our blog. Just swap in seasonal fruit that’s available to you.

Homemade gifts always speak from the heart, so they’re a great choice for the people you love. Of course, if you don’t have time to DIY, that’s okay too. You can always treat your friends, family, clients, or employees to fruit gifts from The FruitGuys. We deliver boxes of fresh fruit, wholesome snacks, or a combination of the two. You can shop our gift line here, or turn any box we sell into a gift box by adding a gift message at checkout.
